My papa and mama went to a brick two story four room school. Second and third grade were in the same room with the same teacher. They liked to play with friends at recess.

My MaMa said school was easy not hard like today. She had lots of spelling words though. She liked to be on the Hall Patrol at school and make sure everyone behaved right.

My Mom said her school was much like ours. They even got a computer in second grade but it was much different from ours. She said she learned in second grade what they teach in first grade now. She liked to play on the playground with her friends and go to after school carnivals and dances.

My grandma went to a two story building in a coal camp. It had classes to the 8th grade. She can't recall second grade. She played on the playground. She played tag and on the see saw.

My Mom went to a small school. She was in a split class in second grade. She learned how to read in second grade. She played dolls and rode bikes for fun.

My Grandma went to a school with four rooms and a hallway. There was only one bathroom. Her second grade teacher taught her dad. The playground only had swings and it had a fence around it. Everyone brought packed lunches to school because there was no cafeteria. She played Jacks and marbles and climbed trees.
